In the final Associated Press state football poll of the season, Head Coach Mr. Rick Streiff’s Fighting Irish are ranked fifth in Class 5A. The team has a bye and does not play on Oct. 20, but will open Sectional play against fourth-ranked Roncalli on Oct. 27 at Arsenal Tech.

The other teams ranked in 5A: New Palestine, first; Columbus East, second; Decatur Central, third; Concord, sixth; Floyd Central, seventh; LaPorte, eighth; McCutcheon, ninth; and Michigan City, 10th.

By enrollment, the Irish actually would compete in Class 4A, but were moved up due to the Indiana High School Athletic Association’s success factor rule.

The top ranked teams in the other classes: Class 6A, Ben Davis; Class 4A, Lowell; Class 3A, Gibson Southern; Class 2A, Eastbrook; Class A, Pioneer.
