The varsity softball team is 15-4 (as of May 8) going into the homestretch of its season, and according to Assistant Coach Mrs. Linda Bamrick, it has gone very well “despite dealing with some adversity with injuries and illnesses to key players,” she said.

The team also made Cathedral history winning the City championship against Chatard last May 4 against Bishop Chatard.

According to Bamrick, winning City was a major accomplishment along with what she called a “thrilling 3-2 victory over Noblesville. There was a great environment with incredible intensity and lots of energy in dugout throughout the game.”

“Now that City is over, our biggest focus is preparing to defend our Sectional title. We have some quality opponents scheduled these last two weeks of the season, including a game against Lake Central, the top ranked team in the state. Our focus in practices have centered around constant communication, defensive intensity and improving our short game offensively to move base runners,” Bamrick said.

The softball team will compete in the Warren Central Sectional against Lawrence Central, with a first-round game on May 21 at 5:30 p.m. Should the Irish win that game, the women will advance to the championship on May 23 at 5:30 p.m.

On May 15, the team celebrates Senior Night against Warren Central at Brunette Park at 5:30 p.m.
