While it may be true that sometimes playing football results in a little loss of blood, the Fighting Irish football program wants you to bleed for a reason on June 3.

On that day, the football team will host a blood drive from 4 to 8 p.m. The bloodmobile will be on campus as part of the Colts Leadership Challenge. According to the event’s promotional material, potential donors should have eaten, be hydrated and have a photo ID in order to donate.

Donation appointments may be scheduled by going to www.donorpoint.org and entering sponsor code 877. Questions may be addressed to Ms. Kristine Pierce at [email protected]

Pierce said, “Hospital patients need blood every day. To ensure the blood supply doesn’t run low in the summer months, the Indiana Blood Center has partnered with the Indianapolis Colts to create the Colts Leadership Challenge, which is designed specifically for high school football teams.” Pierce noted that the goal for the June 3 event at Cathedral is to have at least 33 participants in the blood drive.

Football Head Coach Mr. Bill Peebles said, “Every summer the state of Indiana runs critically low on blood supplies. The Indiana Football Coaches Association, in conjunction with the Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana Blood Center, has teamed up to fill in the summer gap in blood donations. The Fighting Irish football program is kicking off the summer campaign to eliminate the blood shortage. We hope to see you on June 3.”

From 5:30 to 8 p.m., the June 3 event also will include a welcome picnic for incoming freshman football players and their families, Peebles said.
